#41 YELLE

Even though most of her audience doesn’t have a clue what she’s singing about, Yelle has always had a special relation to music fans all across Scandinavia. This is where Julie Budet, as her name off stage is, did her very first gigs outside of France. The response was excellent already back in 2007 thanks to hits as Je Veux Tu Voir and A Cause des Garcons.

And her following has been growing constantly, especially after this years album Safari Disco Club. Less electro, more pop but live it is still as energetic.

We met up the french trio the day after a sold out gig in Copenhagen  and tagged along to another sold out show in Malmö, Sweden.

#33 Peter Bjorn And John

A lot of bands fade away trying to re-create what made them big. Almost as many fail. Peter, Bjorn And John is not one of those. They never tried. They made it big with Young Folks, kept on touring, made the covers and the talk shows. Paid their dues and went right home and made new music. Hence, nothing since Young Folks sounds like Young Folks. Doubt if there ever will be another song like that. Three more records have seen the light of day since, two of them a bit more on the experimental side. The latest one is yet another story. Or to be blunt, they’re right back where they started, only ten years later (and ten years wiser). Gimme Some is an album filled to the brim with simple and catchy tunes deeply rooted in what could best be described as power pop. The world is already at their feet and they are back on the road again. Just like always.

#32 THE ARK

Swedish glam rock band The Ark are now on a tour celebrating their 20th anniversary as a band. It is also a farewell tour, the end of their career. When the tour reached their hometown Växjö in southern Sweden Klubbland was there to capture their last gig in Växjö. Just a block away from where they made their very first show, twenty years ago.

This was all broadcasted live and direct here on klubbland.se. A one hour documentary will be televised on SVT2 later. English subtitles will appear soon.

#31 Graveyard

Klubbland met up with Graveyard down the docks in Gothenburg where they rehearse. Lovely as always, they showed us some of their day before embarking on a tour playing the new songs off of Hisingen Blues, their new brilliant album. Being the first day of the tour there was some nervousness in the air, but that disappeared as soon as they placed a foot on the stage of home town Nefertiti in the heart of city. Total pros as always. The gig was crowded and sold out, they did an amazing gig and all was well. As it should be with one the greatest acts around playing old school hard rock. Läs mer

#30 SÄKERT!

Abroad Swedish singer/songwriter Annika Norlin is perhaps best known as Hello Saferide. This however is a show with her other project Säkert, where Annika sings in her native tongue. From Babel in Malmo in March 2011. We’re still awaiting the subtitles for the documentary part of the show.

Bonus: Säkert! covers Radio Dept. in Swedish
